GACU - Nanango Stags Are Charged Up

Community footy powered by the sun

A new era for the Nanango Rugby Football League Club

The Nanango Rugby Football League Club — home of the mighty Stags — has officially joined The Great Australian Charge-Up, becoming the first Queensland sports club to go solar under the initiative.

Thanks to Solar Superstore, a fully sponsored rooftop solar system has been installed at the Club’s grounds, powering operations with clean, renewable energy — and saving thousands of dollars that can now go back into community sport.

🏉 Powering Local Passion

The Great Australian Charge-Up is an initiative by Solar Superstore that empowers community clubs to reduce costs, embrace renewable energy, and strengthen local engagement.

For the Nanango Stags, the system’s impact goes far beyond savings. Lower electricity bills mean more funds can be redirected to equipment, training, and youth programs — creating a legacy that benefits players and families for years to come.

The hybrid inverter also makes the system battery-ready, allowing the Club to expand into energy storage in future stages of the program.

☀️ How the System Works

During the day, the Club’s new solar array generates clean energy that powers the clubhouse and other facilities.
Excess energy flows back into the grid, earning credits that offset nighttime power use.

The hybrid inverter provides real-time monitoring, ensuring consistent performance and smooth integration with future batteries.

Result: reliable solar power, lower bills, and a lighter carbon footprint — all without a dollar of upfront cost.

📅 From Agreement to Activation

  • June, 2025: Agreement signed between Solar Superstore and Nanango Rugby Football League Club

  • July–August 2025: System design, approvals, and installation

  • August 2025: System commissioned and connected to the grid

The collaboration demonstrates what’s possible when local sport, business, and sustainability unite around a shared goal.

💰 Savings and Sustainability

This installation is projected to generate ~11,900 kWh per year, cutting the Club’s annual power bills by more than $1,000 and delivering over $30,000 in lifetime savings.

Over 25 years, the system will offset more than 250 tonnes of CO₂, helping Nanango do its part in supporting Australia’s transition to renewable energy.

Environmental impact equivalents:

  • 🌳 1,826 trees planted

  • 🚗 284,000 km of car travel avoided

  • 🔋 Power for ~30 homes for a month

🎯 Why It Matters

Community clubs are the beating heart of regional Australia — and electricity costs are one of their biggest ongoing expenses.

By sponsoring and installing these systems, Solar Superstore is helping clubs like Nanango future-proof their facilities, strengthen community pride, and show what sustainability looks like at the grassroots level.

“We’re proud to partner with the Stags on the first Queensland Charge-Up install,” said the Solar Superstore team. “This project represents the power of community energy — locals supporting locals.”

🌏 About The Great Australian Charge-Up

The Great Australian Charge-Up (GACU) is a nationwide initiative by Solar Superstore to help community clubs, not-for-profits, and small regional facilities transition to renewable energy.

Each installation is fully sponsored, with clubs paying nothing for their solar system — in return for recognition and shared community outreach.

Nanango Rugby Football League Club’s system is the first Queensland milestone in this growing network of Charged-Up community sites.
